Penny Kemp's Community Pantry & Café | Open Every Sunday 11am - 1pm
Community sits at the heart of our values.
Our organisation is built on a foundation of compassion, integrity, and accountability.
We believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect, and we are committed to using our resources in the most beneficial, effective and efficient way possible.
Launched October 2023, Penny Kemp's Community Pantry & Café is the working name of a non-profit project hosted at the Heart of Headcorn.
Inspired by Penny Kemp's vision of a fairer social/economic society, we provide free access to good quality fresh food that is surplus to the requirements of local producers, supermarkets, food distribution centres and local individuals.
Every week we help support around 150 individuals from the wider Headcorn Parish community through well-being projects and the redistribution of local food.
At Penny Kemp's Community Pantry & Café, we envision a world where every person has access to the resources they need to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life.
We strive to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.
What do we get when we combine Our Values, Vision, History and Team? Our Mission.
At Penny Kemp's Community Pantry & Café we endeavour to build a stronger, more equitable community by reducing food waste, tackling food insecurity, and fostering connections. Through sustainable practices and compassionate service, we aim to empower individuals, promote wellness, and create a brighter future where everyone has access to nourishing food and a sense of belonging.
Penny Kemp (1949 - 2021) was a lifelong dedicated environmentalist, a pioneering ecosocialist, one of the original founders of the Green party and co-founder of the local Headcorn Sustainability Group. This group was created to support farmers' markets and local shops in Headcorn by encouraging people to buy locally-produced food.
In keeping with Penny’s vision, Penny Kemp's Community Pantry & Café aims to compliment the mission by focusing on the redistribution of locally farmed produce, sustainability, reduction of food waste, tackling food insecurity and community well-being.
Headcorn has a growing, diverse, thriving population and we offer an expanding suite of services that look to support and nuture this community.
